Management of the Western Lowland gorilla ‘ European Endangered species Programme
Although highly threatened in the wild (Critically Endangered, IUCN red list), breeding of Western Lowland gorillas in captive environments is successful. With an equal number of male and female births (sex-ratio 50/50), and according to their harem lifestyle, zoos are encouraged to create unisex male groups called “bachelor group”. This applied ethological thesis aims to determine whether castration may be an alternative method since castrated males may remain in the family group without risking conflicts over access to females with the "silverback".

ll Recent studies showed several nutrients taken individually, such as resveratrol, quercitin, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins and others, partially prevent from some alterations observed during actual and simulated weightlessness. We hypothesized and tested whether additive effects would be obtained when these nutrients are taken as a cocktail.

The Gulf Stream frontal system: a key oceanographic feature in the selection of foraging habitats by the leatherback turtle?
Oceanic fronts are transition areas between water masses of contrasting properties, resulting in the strong aggregation of low trophic level organisms, including the main food resource of the leatherback turtle. Although some associations with the Gulf Stream have been previously suggested, no study has to date evidenced strong affinities between leatherback movements and this particular frontal system using oceanographic data in the horizontal and vertical dimensions. Using satellite tracking combined to 3D innovative ocean forecasting models, I assessed the importance of the Gulf Stream frontal system in the selection of high residence time areas by the North Atlantic leatherback turtle.
