New developments at the K600 magnetic spectrometer of iThemba LABS make possible the investigation of low spin states in very selective reactions (a,a’), (p,t) at zero degrees.
Ancillary detectors such as high resolution HPGe Clovers, a high efficiency 10"x15" NaI scintillator and a segmented silicon detector array are used for even more selectivity in coincidence measurements.
I will present new results on 12C and 20Ne in the context of the search for Hoyle-like states in self conjugate 4n nuclei. Six new states were discovered in 20Ne in an excitation energy region near the 5 alpha threshold. T = 2 isobaric analogue states of 20O were identified together with a candidate to the 5-alpha Hoyle-like state.
