Full numerical solution of a nuclear quadrupole-octupole model by means of diagonalization

Résumé :

A nuclear collective model whose Hamiltonian has a vibrational and a rotational part in the axial quadrupole and octupole degree of freedom is investigated. Under certain limitations, which especially imply the coherent case of equal oscillation frequencies, an analytical solution for the energies and wave functions exists. It will be shown how the full solution can be obtained by means of diagonalization using the known wave functions as basis functions. This leads to a better description of energy levels and transition probabilities of the rare-earth and actinide nuclei under consideration. As in case of the analytical solution model parameters (mass, stiffness and moment of inertia) are adjusted to achieve the best description of experimental data.
